The Challenge

P was in acute crisis following multiple suicide attempts, with a history of trauma and abuse.

They were isolated, dissociating, neglecting personal care, and increasingly dependent on alcohol. Engagement with the Crisis Team had broken down, and the risk of hospital admission was high.

At this point, it was not just about clinical support. It was about safety, trust, and whether meaningful recovery outside of hospital was still possible.

The Approach

A small, consistent female team was put in place to provide person-centred support, with a clear focus on building trust and stability first.

The early stages were deliberately simple. Medication was stabilised, nutrition improved, and space was created for emotional expression without pressure.

From there, the work deepened. Over six weeks, P began engaging in trauma-focused support, developing coping strategies, and reconnecting with personal interests that had been lost during the crisis.

The consistency of the team played a big role here. It created a safe environment where progress could happen at the individual’s pace, rather than being forced.

The Outcome

By week six, there was a clear shift.

P was taking medication consistently, maintaining personal care, and attending community groups independently. Confidence had started to return, alongside a sense of routine and control.

They were able to return to work, reduce alcohol use, and stop making daily emergency calls.

What stands out here is not just the clinical improvement, but the rebuilding of independence. The outcome was not just stability, but a life that felt manageable again.

“Recovery started with trust. Once that was in place, everything else became possible.”
