The Challenge
Mountain Healthcare’s custody services needed improved rota compliance forecasting to ensure safe, effective patient care and reduce the risk of service credits.
Workforce volatility (sickness, leave, maternity absence, attrition & limited visibility of staffing risk), while inconsistent oversight of bank and agency usage and fluctuating demand increased both financial and operational pressure.
The Approach
The Custody Director worked with the RCI Group data team to create a predictive workforce planning model based on Rota Master data. Analysis of sickness, leave, attrition, FTE capacity and staffing costs enabled stronger operational and financial forecasting.
Demand patterns and peak activity periods were incorporated to support forward planning. Insights were shared with Heads of Healthcare and escalated to Board level to provide clear assurance on workforce risk and mitigation.
The Outcome
The enhanced data-led approach improved forecasting accuracy, reduced the risk of KPI breaches, and strengthened cost control.
Teams were better positioned to anticipate staffing pressures, optimise bank and agency usage, and maintain consistent staffing levels.
Increased Board visibility improved assurance over workforce planning, financial exposure, and continuity of patient care. Rota compliance across all contracts has reached an average of 96% since the dashboard launched.
